To provide greater access to STEM careers for girls, Brescia House School, in conjunction with Microsoft, hosts the CuriosITy dinner, a firm favourite in ensuring that girls get curious about IT.
On the 22nd May, five grade 11 girls from New Nation School attended the annual CuriosITy dinner, which attracts young girls from all over South Africa to participate. Targeting young girls in grade 11 allows for them to be able to make implementable changes to their choice of qualification by inspiring them just before they embark on the essential and challenging journey of grade 12.
The low numbers of women in STEM careers have led to this fantastic initiative which introduces girls to the large variety of opportunities available to them. It’s also aspirational as they were able to engage with a captivating and experienced panel chaired by Corien Vermaak, LLB (Rau); LLM (Unisa) – an IT law specialist by trade. The experts discussed several topics relevant to both the girls and IT professionals present and invited questions from the floor. The evening was not only inspirational but also aspirational as they had living examples speak to them about what is possible in the world of STEM careers.
We want to extend a huge thank you to our partner Microsoft for making this possible for the girls at New Nation School.
